With those tasks out of the way, I made my way to the classroom. The room was bright and welcoming, with a few early birds already seated. There was a coffee machine with some of the best coffee I’ve had in a while, a water cooler, and a small selection of snacks. I helped myself to a cup of coffee and settled in.
The course began promptly, led by Reinhold, an experienced paramedic with years of experience under his belt. I must admit, my expectations were low given what I had heard from others. But Reinhold was engaging from the get-go. He shared stories from his years as a paramedic, each one more interesting than the last. He even threw in some life hacks that I never would have considered. The way he presented the material made it clear that he wasn’t just ticking off a list; he was genuinely passionate about teaching us how to save lives.
During the breaks, I chatted with some of my fellow participants, all of whom had varying levels of experience with first aid. Some, like me, were there to validate a foreign driver’s license, while others were new to driving entirely. We all agreed that Reinhold’s approach made the day go by much faster than we anticipated.
With my certificates in hand—a first aid course completion certificate, a vision test certificate, and the biometric photos—I felt a sense of accomplishment. A week later, the translation of my Chinese driver’s license arrived in the mail, just as promised. All of this came at a total cost of €74.99, which I found to be quite reasonable for the convenience and quality of service provided.
Looking back, I’m glad I listened to László’s advice. What I thought would be a tedious day turned out to be both informative and enjoyable.
